One of two new primary schools being built to support world-class education across the local Bundamba community will be known as Woogaroo Creek State School.
Member for Bundamba Lance McCallum said the name was officially announced today ahead of the school’s opening for Term 1 next year.
“The name follows a comprehensive consultation process and has strong geographical, cultural and environmental significance for our local community, along with the land at Augustine Heights on which the school is being built,” Mr McCallum said.
“Woogaroo Creek will form an important part of the school landscape upon completion of the campus, and areas to the south of the site are habitats for local flora and fauna.
“Our local First Nations community maintains a close connection to the creek after previous generations fished its waters and settled on surrounding land.
“The creek is also a local landmark for many – serving as a natural boundary between the Bundamba and Jordan electorates – and its name in synonymous with our community.
“We’re already home to Woogaroo Field, the home of the mighty Goodna Eagles; Woogaroo Swimming Club; and of course, Woogaroo Street. Now we’re very happy to welcome Woogaroo Creek State School.
“The $85 million school at Purser Road will be a great addition to nearby Fernbrooke State School, Redbank Plains State School and Augusta State School.
“It will be supported by another new primary school in Ripley that is also set to open to students at the start of 2023.”
