Workers at Redbank’s Rheinmetall Defence Australia Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence will deliver one of the biggest defence export deals ever seen in Australia.
The $1 billion deal will support 1,000 highly skilled local jobs as part of an agreement to build more than 100 armed carriers for Germany.
Member for Bundamba Lance McCallum said the announcement was another win for the industry leading $170 million Redbank facility.
“This is truly a historic day for our local Bundamba community, our workers and our economy,” Mr McCallum said.
“This latest deal supports more good local jobs now and into the future and builds on the success of our state-of-the-art Rheinmetall facility as a global defence giant.
“We continue to see the benefits of the Palaszczuk Government attracting Rheinmetall to our great state as part of a long-term partnership through Queensland Defence Industries that is delivering highly skilled local jobs and a huge boost to our economy.
“Already more than 600 new jobs have been created at Redbank as part of the $5.2 billion LAND 400 Phase 2 project to build 211 Boxer CRVs for the Australian Army.
“This year we marked the start of full-scale production on the first locally made CRV and Rheinmetall remains in the running to secure the multi-billion-dollar LAND 400 Phase 3 project.
“We have the high-tech skills and expertise to deliver these world-class projects and more in our local community.
“We’re also ensuring long-term economic benefits by working through Defence Jobs Queensland to maximise our local supply chain opportunities.”
