Two local groups are among 29 across the state to share in $270,000 under the latest round of the Palaszczuk Government’s Investing in Queensland Women Grants.
Member for Bundamba Lance McCallum said the funding would support programs to educate, empower and inspire women and girls in Ipswich.
“Our local African Professionals of Australia at Redbank Plains will deliver a STEM mentorship program for African school students to encourage them to pursue further education and careers in STEM and law,” Mr McCallum said.
“The program will provide great opportunities for our local young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
“In Ipswich, our Older Women’s Network will host a half-day event to highlight the importance of community connection in reducing social isolation.
“I congratulate both groups on their successful applications, and look forward to seeing the programs in action.”
Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman said Investing in Queensland Women was part of the government’s ongoing commitment to engaging communities across the state.
“Since launching the program in February 2021, more than 120 grants have been provided, totalling $1.08 million to support local community initiatives,” Ms Fentiman said.
“It’s been a great success to date, so I really do urge organisations to start thinking about creative new initiatives and partnerships that support women and girls and apply for the next round of the grant program, which opens in February.”
