Two new primary schools will open their doors to students from the local Ipswich community for the very first time on Monday.
Member for Bundamba Lance McCallum said Ripley Central State School and Woogaroo Creek State School would welcome the start of Term 1 as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s ongoing commitment to more world-class education closer to home.
“The brand-new schools will open to students from Prep to Year 6, supporting the nearby Fernbrooke State School, Redbank Plains State School and Augusta State School,” Mr McCallum said.
“Ripley Central State School is a $66 million investment in one of Queensland’s fastest growing areas, while the $85 million Woogaroo Creek State School takes its name from an iconic geographic landmark that is synonymous with our local community.
“The foundation principals and staff continue to do outstanding work in engaging and consulting with parents, carers and the wider community.
“A tremendous amount of planning and preparation has gone into making day one a success, and I wish everyone involved all the very best for the year ahead.”
Member for Jordan Charis Mullen said continued population growth in the Ipswich region meant state education facilities continued to be a priority for the Palaszczuk Government.
“We want to ensure every child in our community has access to the very best education and contemporary facilities like those found at Woogaroo Creek State School and Ripley Central State School,” Ms Mullen said.
“I would like to thank the contractors and their workers for their outstanding efforts in delivering the schools, which are ready for students to walk through the gates for the first time on Monday.
“It was a demanding year for the construction industry, but through unprecedented weather events, industry material and labour shortages and ongoing COVID impacts, all the contractors were able to work with the Department of Education to deliver first-rate schools.
“I wish all families the very best for the coming school year.”
Member for Ipswich Jennifer Howard said the community had welcomed Ripley Central State School with great excitement.
“Foundation Principal Wuanita Meyrick is enthusiastic and will do a great job leading students on their learning journeys,” Ms Howard said.
“I want to thank Hutchinson Builders for their efforts in getting Ripley Central State School ready for students on the first day of Term 1.
“They’ve worked through a year of extreme weather, COVID, supply chain disruptions and material and workforce constraints.
“While some construction work is still continuing, all the facilities required to conduct classes for students are ready for day one.”
