The final repairs on the Redbank Plains Road bridge at Blackstone are now complete following the installation of new steel cross-girders.
Member for Bundamba Lance McCallum said he was excited to see the road fully re-opened, meaning no more disruptions for residents.
“The bridge was badly damaged when it was hit by a truck in March,” Mr McCallum said.
“Crews have worked around the clock to not only to fix it, but make it stronger, so if something unfortunate like this happens again, there will be less damage.
“The first stage of works, involving repairs to the concrete and steel sections, was completed in July and allowed the overpass to reopen to two-way traffic.
"This second stage involved the construction of steel cross-girders bracing the bridge girders, which will minimise damage in the event of another vehicle strike.
"The unexpected disruption to traffic serves as an important reminder about the importance of knowing the height of your vehicle when travelling on the road network.
"The bridge strike in March caused local motorists a great deal of inconvenience and frustration. I would like to thank them for all their patience and understanding while repairs were completed.”
Mr McCallum said repair work like this formed an important part of the Palaszczuk Government’s road and transport plan.
“We’re building roads like never before by delivering a record $27.5 billion road and transport plan,” he said.
“Road maintenance forms an important part of the plan, so we can respond quickly to the unexpected and deliver repairs like this one.”
