Member for Bundamba Lance McCallum has welcomed news that solar installations at five local schools will benefit from the rollout of Phases 2 and 3 of the Palaszczuk Government’s Advancing Clean Energy Schools (ACES) program.

Mr McCallum said the program is helping to reduce energy costs at Queensland state schools and supporting local jobs.

“I’m really pleased that Bundamba State Secondary College, Collingwood Park State School, Kruger State School, Redbank Plains State High School and Riverview State School are included in the next phase, with work rolling out from 1 July this year.

“In addition to clean energy and lower bills to our schools, the ACES program is also helping to support local businesses and sub-contractors right here in Bundamba during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

“Now more than ever, it is important that we maintain a consistent pipeline of work to support tradespeople and our local economy.

“This is a win-win situation for our local tradies and school communities, and I’m looking forward to seeing solar panels go up soon on our local schools.

In total, more than 800 state schools will benefit from the ACES program by June 2022.

“We know that schools are some of our biggest energy users in the state, so installing solar panels and other energy efficiency measures just makes sense.

“The ACES program is expected to deliver a reduction of up to 20 per cent in state school energy costs when fully implemented.

“ACES will provide approximately 35MW of solar generated electricity, making a significant contribution to the Palaszczuk Government’s target of 50 per cent renewable energy use by 2030.
